Tongue Tie or Lip Tie
About
Tongue tie in infants can cause latch issues, poor weight gain, colic and irritability.
These are some reasons to have your baby’s tongue tie surgically released :
- procedure is easily performed without anaesthetic nor complications
- minimal discomfort to the baby
- improvement in latch, feeding and secondary weight gain
- potential improvement in speech development in the future
Release of tongue tie is offered to babies under 3 months in the rooms without need for general anaesthetic. The appointment and procedure are offered on the same day and babies need to be fasted 2 hours prior.
Appointment
Please make sure you have read and completed the information and consent form prior to your appointment. Please do not feed your baby for 2 hours prior to the appointment.
Procedure
The procedure has minimal discomfort and thus the operation will be performed by the doctor without any anaesthetic. The tongue tie will be released using sterile instruments. Once the procedure is complete and there is no sign of bleeding, the baby can be fed straight away, which also assists with post-operative pressure.
